About

The name of this site, Kougakushin, is Japanese for “love of learning”.

I recently finished my PhD in Computer Science and started this site as an outlet for something that I love: learning! Since spending some time in Japan in 2006 I’ve rediscovered my love of language; through my PhD I’ve discovered a love of maths and psychology. These are the kinds of things I’ll discuss here amongst other topics.

Ultimately this blog has no defined goal, I just believe that writing for the sake of writing is worthwhile. A PhD will teach you that an idea that you haven’t written down may be half-baked and full of holes. This is not the end of the world, in fact it’s the first step! Write it down, find the gaps and fill them.
